Marketing as a Team Sport

Five of us (Jan Viands, Lisa Key, Ashley Hutson, Shannon Kraushaar and myself) took this four week online course from Infopeople in California. Through readings, assignments and audio interviews we learned about what marketing was, who does marketing (everyone), how to do different kinds of marketing (WOMM-word of mouth marketing), and how to organize your system to effectively market to their community. It seemed to energize all of us attendees and we are chomping at the bit to get going on a plan for WCFL. Highly recommended-we have all the handouts so if anyone is interested please contact me.

Thing 7: What would make these useful for libraries? To Update events, showcase new materials, have the news on the library webpage. This could be a reason for a person to have the library page as their home page. I like using the rss feeds for instant news and to find out what other people are thinking and talking about. Mostly I am interested in things pertaining to my job but that may change as I access my feeds more. This was fun but I am stuck on sharing my feeds! Onward

Hi there,
I just saw somthing from the Librarian in Black blog. She recommended a voice recognition site called Jott. You must sign up (it's free) and you access it via your phone. When you call the number you can leave a voice message that will appear as text in your inbox or the text message on your phone. It looked like it would be very helpful as a reminder. Try it out.

Week 3 # 7 Something About Technology

Take a look at the search engine Kosmix (www.kosmix.com). It is touted as being a toatlly new type of search engine. I looked a library 2.0 and got a number of magazine articles. The look of the webpage was minimal. Results were only 2 or 3 lines long. The information about this site says it uses different logarithms to do the search querry. Check it out.

Flickr Apps

Wow! I just went looked on the Flickr applications page and saw the Yahoo Trip Planner. You can see other folks trips (I was looking at a trip to Peru) which lists the intinerary (where they went each day) and photos of what they saw. It was so cool. There were even links to hotels and other tours. It's a great way to get help with trip planning: what to see and how long to stay in each place. See http://travel.yahoo.com/trip

Ok here goes-so far this blogging is ok. The 7 & 1/2 habits video was interesting. It's challenging (You are responsible for your own learning) and reassuring (play) at the same time. My favorite way to learn is from movies. My current favorite (which is a couple of years old) is Millions. Check it out. Ta ta for now.
